When do white birch (Betula papyrifera, aka paper birch) transition from their young (reddish, coppery-colored) bark, to their mature (white, exfoliating) bark? There are some times when it’s fun and interesting to talk about “why” they happen, and I also want to talk about just how cool it is that things happen — period. In this case, I don’t know if there is some rule of thumb about when or why white birches change from their immature bark to their more mature, characteristic bark — all I know
